PROJECTS

Creating Opportunities in Mathematics through Equity and INclusion (COME-IN)

multiracial-male-female-colleagues-havin

TPSE formed a diverse working group of 15 leaders who adapted the core criteria from the AAAS STEMM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change to the needs and challenges of the mathematical and statistical sciences departments.

TPSE is developing resources for assessing and improving diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in math/stat departments.  A set of guidelines will be available to help departments:

  • Understand how their policies and practices relate to equity and inclusion

  • Identify their most important gaps

  • Develop tangible action plans to address those gaps

TPSE Leadership Institute

Brainstorm

The TPSE Math Leadership Institute is a year-long program that helps prepare a diverse group of future leaders within the mathematics community. The goal is to help each participant learn new leadership skills and expand their vision of what leadership means. Each participant will increase their ability to make a difference as a leader at the local and national levels, and respond to future challenges as leaders at their institution, in professional organizations, and within Federal agencies. The Institute especially encourages participants from underrepresented groups in mathematics.

Careers Outside of Academia

The Graduate Education sub-group of TPSE

TPSE seeks to provide information for departments and students on discovering careers outside of the academy.  The TPSE-Rutgers Education and Employment Research Center (REERC) report Career Preparation in Math Graduate Programs presented enhancements and recommendations for graduate programs. A working group from the TPSE Graduate Education MAG prepared Opening Doors: a TPSE primer on careers for mathematicians outside of the academy.
