We need to start by ending the practice of college algebra being the default college-level course for all students. By providing alternative pathways we can provide rigorous math instruction for students who do not intend to pursue programs that require calculus. Further, keeping College Algebra focused on those students who do intend to pursue a calculus based major will provide opportunities to deepen the quality of instruction for those students.
